Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Deb . Today's question is "What’s the saddest book you’ve read recently?"
I love sad books for some reason. They don't make me depressed; I'm able to separate my real life from the books I read, so I don't STAY sad. I recently read Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs. Even though it was funny at times, his upbringing was so pathetic and dysfunctional; it breaks my heart to know that such mentally ill parents have children. This book is along the lines of A Boy Called It. The other sad book I read was The Book Thief, which was amazing, by the way.
ALL THINGS PERSONAL
Just wanted to tell you some cool news about E.
He got invited along with 2 other sophomores to attend the Varsity basketball conditioning program at school. The head coach sent him an email saying there will be a meeting this Friday about it and for him to come. I'm not sure what, if anything, it means but it's neat that he got singled out. His friend Mike, whom he has played basketball with since 3rd grade, also got an email. So we'll see what becomes of it and I'll let you know. I'm sure the coach sees this 6'7" sophomore walking up and down the halls and just wants to get him prepared for when he does move up.
This Sunday night E will start open gym scrimmages through Gameface (a bball program here) and will also join their team, which consists of high school kids throughout the area. That will be either Wednesday or Thursday nights. So it'll be good for him to start getting ready for tryouts in early November. I'm ready for some basketball!
