Baseball tryouts: On Monday Eric tried out for his primary position of choice, which was pitching. They mostly just went through their windup. Yesterday they tried out for their secondary choice. Before school, Eric's secondary choice was 1st base. At 3:00 he decided not to try out for 1st base because he feels he can't hit well enough and didn't want to make a fool of himself. He's no Albert Pujols, and with 130 kids trying out, I can't blame him. He asked the coach if he had to have a secondary position and the coach said no, so he tried out for pitching again.

With the 32 degree weather yesterday, I think Eric was wishing he wasn't trying out at all. It was hard as a mother to watch the boys trying to blow into their hands to stay warm. The wind was blowing and it was absolutely freezing. They have to wear white t-shirts with assigned numbers on them, with only a long sleeved shirt underneath. Eric said he could hardly feel his hand around the ball.

I don't know how one coach can watch 40 kids pitch at one time (10 groups of 4) and decide who to cut. I guess they can tell by their mechanics. I don't know when first cuts are, but I DO know that it's supposed to be 50 today, so that's good news.
