Saturday Basketball Game

DeSmet lost their game yesterday to Lafayette, who had some very big and tall boys. The score was 30-40 and E scored 10 points, the most on his team. He made every shot he took except for 2 free throws (also made 2 FT). A guy behind me was rooting for the other team and he said, "That #24 is really good." I told Eric that later. It was funny because the night before, at the Brentwood game, my other "son" Taylor Dee scored 28 points!! And a guy behind us with the other team said, "That #40 sure is good, and he's only a junior so we'll see him next year too." So proud of my boys! Julie said Taylor had bought new shoes that day so she said jokingly said he must have done so well because of the new shoes. She was guessing they cost about $120, but wasn't sure since Taylor went on his own to get them. After the game she said to Taylor, "I think your shoes are the reason you did so well," and he said, "I sure hope so...they're Scottie Pippens and they cost $145.00!" I had to pick her up off the floor.

Video clips continued...

I have to do these video clips in parts because the Internet goes out when it takes too long to upload the video. So see post below this one to get all the game action info :)

In this video you can hear a lot of screaming (cheerleaders and parents of Oakville team) because I think at this point it was in double overtime.

This video shows the last seconds of the game and also where Eric's coach hugs him (one of a couple of times he hugged him!)

Show 'Em What Ya Got!!

First of all, I failed to blog about the Spartan's third place finish in Saturday's tournament. They won by 2 points. Mind you, the teams they played in the tournament were all "A" teams, so they did well with their 2-1 record in the tournament. I don't remember E's stats for the game (the mind goes after a few days), but I do remember that he was in a bad mood despite their win so he must not have played well. I also know that he has scored in every game so he probably got 2 or 4 points.

Yesterday was different. E was told at school that he would start the game that night. Later he found out it was because the starting center was sick, so he was a little bummed that his starting debut was due to default and not talent. But he was fine with that. On the ride there I told him, "Show 'em what ya got!" So we got to the game and the sick center shows up. I wasn't sure if E would start, but he did. Eric ended up playing all but about 30 seconds of the game. My camcorder got a workout last night and I pretty much watched the entire game through the viewfinder. But it was fine with me! In the last video clip here you'll see Eric's coach hugging him at the end of the game, which went into double overtime and DeSmet won by 1 point. It was so exciting. After the game, all the parents greeted the players with a cheer and Eric's coach hugged him and pointed to him and said, "MVP...right here...MVP." It made Eric feel so good. Oh, I forgot to mention the reason he said that is because Eric had 17 rebounds, 5 points, and I don't know how many assists. I asked the coach how he knew Eric had 17 rebounds (because they don't have an assistant coach or kid who takes stats), and he said, "I counted! I kept track!" So E was a happy basketball player last night.

Next game is this Thursday at 4:00 - their first home game and their first actual "B" team opponent (CBC). It will be interesting to see if E starts :)

In these misc. pics, we've got K.C. eyeing Eric's eggs this morning, Eric doing post-game homework (still in his uniform and shoes), a close up of his size 14's, K.C. waiting for her belly rub, and Larry and his Dad, who looks AWESOME for 95 !

E's team lost by 3 points last night. Such an exciting game, with B.J. Olden shooting a 3 with like 9 seconds left. We got the ball, and with 2.2 seconds left Coach Dressler called for a play that after the game he said he got from watching TV. It was sooo close, but our guy wasn't able to score. E only scored 2 points and had a rough game, getting into foul trouble early on. His coach is absolutely amazing with him, knowing that he was so down on himself and sitting by Eric and giving him a pep talk. So, so cute! (Oh, I forgot, we don't use the word cute in high school sports).

1st High School Basketball Game

E's team won 39-30 in the St. Charles West Tournament last night. E had four points, a couple of rebounds and assists (I earned an F as statistician, according to Eric). He played quite a bit of the game, especially because the team they played - St. Charles - had a tall player, so Eric was out there whenever he was. It was great that they started off the season with a win. Yeah! They play again tonight at 7:30. I'll let you know how it goes. The DeSmet basketball website is good about posting the scores, so if I don't post it on my blog right away, you can always click on the Schedules and Scores on the left hand side of the blog and scroll down to the white team. The score should be posted there.

If you wonder why Eric is tugging at his shorts during the game, it's because something was wrong with the drawstring, so his shorts were really loose. But it's all fixed now. Hopefully tonight he can concentrate on basketball instead of whether or not his shorts will fall off.

Eric's coach is only 24 years old. He played basketball all four years at DeSmet. Eric really likes him. He looked like an excited little kid when the team won. He has a beard and wears a tie to look older.

You can see some video below. Eric is #24 (his favorite # is 42, but since 24 is the reverse, he was fine with that :)
